The mutation of coronavirus D614 has mutated to variant G614. This variant has no effect on patient survival when an individual contracts coronavirus, but makes it three to nine times more infectious.
A study published in the journal CELL shows the genetic sequence of certain mutation taking over COVID-19. Experiments with living host and lab dishes showed mutated version is more prominent than other version. The report shows that the G614 variant is more infectious but did not find disease to be more or less severe when and person contracted the virus. This virus version spread more rapidly in the upper respiratory tract, but studies would have to be done for a viral load in order for humans to show symptoms.
