After a mad dash to get U.S. citizenship, Kallie Humphries took home the gold in monobob’s Olympic debut.
Kaillie Humphries took home the gold medal in monobob at the Beijing Olympics on Monday less than three months after becoming an American citizen.
The 36-year-old previously won gold medals in two-man bobsled, once during the 2010 Olympics and the second during the 2014 Olympics, for her native Canada. She also took home the bronze in 2018 before moving to Team USA in 2019.
“This one feels more emotional than most,” Humphries said, according to The New York Times. “It just hits the heartstrings a little bit to know I had to fight so hard for something that I wanted and I had the backing and the support sitting behind me and it worked.”
