Side effects are a natural part of the vaccination process, and are a good sign that your body’s protection is ramping up as it should.

As people have begun getting their second vaccine shot, approximately 1/3 of them are having side effects. Not everyone will, but those that do are reporting effects ranging from slight fatigue, to headaches, chills, aches, and in some rare cases, even a fever. Most say they go away in 24-48 hours, as quickly as they came.

This is actually a good sign that the vaccine is working as it should, ramping up the body’s immune response. The Atlantic reports that “when hit with the second injection, the immune system recognizes the onslaught, and starts to take it even more seriously. The body’s encore act, uncomfortable though it might be, is evidence that the immune system is solidifying its defenses against the virus.”

If you happen to be one of those that feels under the weather after your 2nd shot, don’t worry! It’s just your body’s way of remembering the recipe of how to build antibodies to fight the virus. Like anything we repeat we’re better at it the 2nd time around, so know that your body is doing exactly what you need it to.
