PBS uses slow-motion schlieren imaging experiments to demonstrate how and why masks work against virus particles.

We all know that masks are required when you leave home these days to protect yourself and others from the virus. But how well do they actually work? This video shows how aerosol droplets travel through the air, and how they are trapped by masks, which disrupt their travel through talking, breathing, singing, coughing, or sneezing. Spoiler alert – it’ very cool. And masks are very, very effective.
