UCI, OC Health Care Agency finds that SAR-CoV-2 antibodies are 7 times more prevalent than previously thought.

University of California, Irvine researchers found that 11.5% in their sample study have antibodies for COVID-19. While far from the herd immunity standard of 70% contraction rate, this is significantly more than anticipated, and shows that the virus has spread far more broadly in Orange County – the 6th largest county in the U.S. – than previously thought. Researchers hope that this study increases understanding of vulnerable demographics, as well as the prevalent spread of the virus in populations.
