COVID-19 has produced a national disaster for the U.S. With warnings from many public health specialists, the U.S. system failed in its response, forcing health care providers to improvise last-minute solutions to try to lesson the death toll.
As of May, 2020, Coronavirus left more than 90,000 people dead, 1.5 Million infected, and more than 30 Million unemployed. Nursing homes, prisons and meatpacking plants that have become hotbeds of infection. The U.S. health care system requires every player to be financially self-sustaining to have a profitable business model. But there is no ROI (return on investment) to position a business for a pandemic. With COVID-19 coming to the U.S. no health system or institution saw it was in their place to address a epidemic/pandemic. Following are some failures – and opportunities for learning – during this pandemic:
1) Adequate testing
2) Ventilators
3) Testing components and PPE
4) Hospitals did not coordinate with each other
5) The Hospital Rescue
