Want to succeed in hitting your New Year’s goals to move more? Here’s how to actually make it happen.

The National Center for Biotechnology Information released a study on goal setting and exercise, just in time for all of us who are making goals as we enter the new year. Essentially, the best exercise goals are those that are just out of reach. The study states that if you set your goals too high, it may seem overwhelming to even try at all. “While more difficult performance goals might trigger higher physical activity levels, higher performance goals might concurrently be more difficult to achieve, which could reduce long-term motivation.”

Set your next goals just above what you think you can realistically achieve…and science shows you have a better chance of actually getting there.
