England went in to lockdown 2.0 for four weeks starting Nov. 5th, with the goal of getting the R-Naught (R0) below 1 to control the rapid spread of the virus.
Boris Johnson recently announced that England will go back in to a national lockdown from Nov. 5 – Dec 2 in order to control the spread of the virus in the hard-hit U.K. The move was an admission that the NHS test and trace system had not succeeded in keeping the virus in check. Pubs, restaurants and non-essential shops will be closed for the lockdown, prompting people to stock up before the orders go in effect on Thursday. Schools and universities will remain open, however, and Britain’s leaders hope that this will curb the virus enough that people will be able to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones. During this time, the government hopes to roll out new systems to help stem the tide of the virus following what is being called “Lockdown 2.0.”
